When choosing the right underlayment for your new roofing project there are many brands and products available to you, as the consumer. WeatherSeal Roofing being a proud member of GAF's Certified Contractors network, we offer a full range of GAF underlayment's, also referred to as roof deck protection. We put together a breakdown and comparison of the best GAF has to offer.
Types of Underlayment:
Generally, there are two popular types of underlayment's, Felt and Synthetic. Felt is manufactured by saturating paper or fiberglass mat with asphalt and typically come in 15 LB thickness configuration or 30 LB. Synthetic underlayment is typically manufactured from woven or spun polyethylene or polypropylene and comes is a wide variety of thicknesses.
Full synthetic underlayment's are typically more expensive than their felt counterparts, however, synthetic underlayment has been proven to be superior to felt in many ways, which include; synthetic underlayment's repel heat better on hot summer days, are less ridged in cold weather and less likely to crack or break, tend to stay fastened and more secure in high wind events, are made of stronger material, lighter than felt, and safer for the roofers due to their slip resistance.
At WeatherSeal Roofing we provide GAF full synthetic underlayment's on all our projects as they have been proven to be more durable and superior to felt.
Shingle‑Mate® Roof Deck Protection
Shingle-Mate is a Fiberglass-reinforced asphalt felt underlayment for shingled roofs. This GAF underlayment offers some great qualities over traditional felt with it's fiberglass reinforced construction, which helps avoid wrinkling/buckling and protect against wind-driven rain infiltration.
FeltBuster® Synthetic Roofing Felt
GAF's FeltBuster synthetic underlayment is a great upgrade to your traditional felt. Made from a non-asphaltic, polypropylene construction which provides a long-lasting performance – unlike conventional felts that can disintegrate over time. It also offers additional protection from wind driven rain, UV degradation, and lays flatter than traditional felt which helps for a better install of your new shingles.
FeltBuster is a key part of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System, and has earned the Good Housekeeping Seal.
